Is the Coton de Tulear a suitable family pet?
Absolutely!  The Coton de Tulear  makes an ideal family pet. Of course supervision is advised when there are young children around. This is not because the Coton will be aggresive, but any dog that is pulled around and poked will react accordingly, so common sense prevails in this situation.
Other than that, the Coton is a perfect companion who wants to be involved with each of the family and all their doings : ))
